Privacy Policy
Marchpane Studio takes your privacy seriously. I will never share your information with anyone or any third party company, nor will I ever sell your information. I will use only the information I need to in order to provide the services I offer (workshops/courses/classes) and sell products in my online shop. These are what I need to do to run my business.
What information does Marchpane Studio collect?
When you purchase from the Marchpane Studio website shop or make a booking I will receive:
-
your name
-
your address for delivery and
-
your address for billing (if different to delivery)
-
your contact number
-
your email address
-
a record of the items purchased or course/workshop booked/paid for
This information is stored on the e-commerce and bookings area of my website which is provided by Wix who host my website. I will not print out or place your information on my personal computer as there is no need: I can do all I need to do through the Wix platform. Wix's Privacy policy can be viewed here.
What does Marchpane Studio do with the information collected?
(Marchpane Studio's Fair Processing Notice)
"Fair processing" is a GDPR term. It means the following bullet points tell you what I will do do with your information in order to run my small business, why I need the information I collect and how I am keeping the use of your information to a minimum. Just doing what I need to in order to run my business.
-
If you have purchased items from the shop I will only ever use the information you have provided to contact you in relation to your order such as a delay in delivery or any sort of problem my end (which hopefully there wouldn't be!) otherwise I use your address to ship your purchases to.
-
If you have booked a course or workshop then I will again use your email to send a pre-course or pre-workshop information pack and a reminder email the day before you are due to visit Marchpane Studio. If there were any issues then I may use your contact number to give you a call if expediency was required e.g. the studio flooded. (which it won't, not unless the washer in the utility area broke!)
-
I will also ask for any feedback via an email after you have attended the workshop/class or course you will have the choice as to whether you complete this or not.
-
If you have bought a voucher and requested it be posted directly to the recipient rather than to you; the address of the recipient will be stored on my e-commerce area with your order but I would only use it to post the voucher to. I would never contact them directly with any sort of marketing as they have not given consent.
-
If you open an account via the website then your details are again only kept in the e-commerce area of my site, hosted by Wix. This means you can see previous purchases you have made and can store a credit card securely to make future checkouts quicker if you wish. Obviously it is your decision whether you wish to do that. Wix is a secure site and my website has an SSL certificate which you can see by the emblem at checkout and the padlock on my website title. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer and basically allows for an encrypted private transaction between you and my website.
-
If you open an account I will have asked for your consent to send occasional marketing emails. If you give consent I may send you (only by email) information about products/ workshops you may be interested in. I would never spam your account daily or weekly. I hate spam and have unsubscribed myself from sites that seem to think I want something from them every day! (No one wants that!) It is more likely a once a month communication or when I have a special offer or something exciting to share.
-
If you subscribe to the newsletter then I will have your email in a "Newsletter Contact" list and send you the newsletter via email every couple of months or so. At this time of writing I have not yet decided if I will use MailChimp or not but when I have written my first newsletter I will amend this document accordingly. You always retain the right to unsubscribe from this service. Your email for the Marchpane Studio Newsletter may therefore potentially be held in more than one place in the future (e.g. MailChimp) in order to provide the best service I can but again, your information will never be shared with anyone else.
-
If you subscribe to the Marchpane Studio newsletter I will ask for your consent if you wish to be sent any other emails about new products/workshops/courses. Again you always retain the 'opt out' option at any time.
-
I do not intend to keep hold of your data indefinitely. Every year I will have a "data dump" I am currently a start-up and so I will take further advice on what other small businesses do about data storage and timelines. I think my policy will be that I would go through and delete the information of anyone who bought a product or service once, more than a year ago and who has not subscribed to the newsletter or made a Marchpane Studio account.
-
I hope to have repeat customers and people that are happy with my products and services and who return to do more workshops and courses. For these customers I will retain their information unless they contacted me and asked me to remove/amend their details as is their right. They would need to email hello@marchpanestudio.co.uk and put the request in.
-
I do not foresee any requirement for me to place your email or any other information you have entrusted me with in a spreadsheet on my own computer or print it out and store in a file (other than printing your address label) I can do all I need to do in the Wix e-commerce area. If this changes and I find I do need to save any of your contact information to my own computer/store a paper document in a locked cabinet etc in order to run my business I will amend this policy accordingly.
-
For private tuition and special occasion creative sessions there will be a form to complete about your requirements and art interests which will enable me to tailor an experience that you will love. This information will be collected in an email attachment form or can be printed and filled in by hand. It may be that we have a phone call and I take this information down as we talk. This completed form will be kept in a file in my office. The only information on this form will be your name.
-
I would like to use examples of art works completed at the various workshops and courses. I would always ask for your consent before posting any images of your work or you and you do not have to agree. I will always respect your wishes and privacy.
-
I will revisit and amend/revise this policy accordingly and at any time.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of my Privacy Policy please email me at hello@marchpanestudio.co.uk

A little bit about Cookies
Pretty much all websites use Cookies. This one does. You will have had a cookie pop-up appear the first time you entered the Marchpane Studio website. I have made sure I comply with GDPR rules by giving you the option to choose whether to accept all cookies or just some. You are then able to enable the cookies you don't mind receiving or leave them disabled. There is no option to chose not to have the essential cookies as my website would otherwise not work! The different types of cookies are mentioned below.
What is a cookie?
-
A “cookie” is a piece of information that is stored on your computer’s hard drive and which records how you move your way around a website so that, when you revisit that website it remembers you.
-
Cookies can also be used to analyse traffic and for advertising and marketing purposes.
-
Cookies do not harm your system.
-
This is a secure website. Not all websites are. You can find out about how to tell if a website is secure using a simple search "How do I know a website is secure". If you look on the website title you will see it says https:// the 's' stands for secure. I also have a little padlock next to my website title. You can click on a padlock and see a certificate, these are all good indicators that you are using a secure website.
You can block cookies at any time by using the setting on your browser that allows you to refuse some or all cookies. However, if you use your browser settings to block all cookies (including essential cookies) you may not be able to access all or parts of the website.
How does Marchpane Studio use cookies?
-
I have created my website using Wix, I also use their bookings management and my shop uses their e-commerce management, all of which use cookies for functionality and analytical data.
-
I have links from my website to Instagram/ Facebook page/ Pinterest and PayPal all of which will use cookies too. When you click on those links from my website you are accepting their cookies too.
-
My website uses cookies to track how it is being used. This enables me to understand how people use the site and track any patterns. Potentially this can help me to improve the website and services. I don't currently understand how cookies help me do this but I have read that they do and I will find out in due course (with a huge edible cookie to fuel me as I imagine it may be pretty dry reading but...needs must!)
Different types of Cookies
-
Session cookies: these are only stored on your computer during your web session and are automatically deleted when you close your browser.
-
Persistent cookies: a persistent cookie is stored as a file on your computer and it remains there when you close your web browser. The cookie can be read by the website that created it when you visit that website again. I can use persistent cookies for Google Analytics (when I learn how to!)
Cookies can be categorised as follows:
-
Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are essential to enable you to use the website effectively, such as when buying a product and / or service, and therefore cannot be turned off. Without these cookies, the services available to you on this website cannot be provided. These cookies do not gather information about you that could be used for marketing or remembering where you have been on the internet. This is the one you can not turn off for this website when the cookie box opened up.
-
Performance cookies: These cookies enable me to monitor and improve the performance of this website.
-
Functionality cookies: These cookies allow the website to remember choices you make and provide enhanced features.
Depending on your browser if you wish to alter your cookie settings or periodically remove them you just have to search your browser name and cookie settings and you can easily find step by step instructions to give you control over cookies. I've always been told to periodically clear my cookie cache although be warned it removes your user name/ log ins and passwords from sites! which is a bit annoying when you can't remember your log in....although not the end of the world. Therefore I'm not advising you to do any removing of cookies but just saying that you can and what happens if you do. The benefits of clearing your cookie cache is it can free up space and can help to protect your privacy online.
I'd much rather eat real cookies and clear the cache in the biscuit jar than know much about the computer sort of cookies BUT now I have my own website I am obliged by law to to let you know that this website uses cookies and that you have the option to opt in or out of certain cookies :)
