Covid-19 Precautions

I will always adhere to government guidelines with regards to Covid-19 and what we can and can't do and update this section as necessary.

March 2022

No more legal requirements are in place. You are not required to wear a mask now.  Please do not attend if you have covid symptoms we can rearrange your session.

Update December 6th 2020

Nottingham is in Tier 3 again although it is unclear whether I can try to be open as I offer lessons indoors. I am going to wait until 2021 now and for us to be in tier 2 or 1 or better still out of it altogether so we can do things normally again. Please subscribe to my newsletter and I will email when workshops/classes/private lessons can go ahead again.

Update Saturday 31st November 2020

Lockdown means non of the planned sessions or private tuition can happen this side of Christmas. Fingers crossed for 2021. Thankfully I got a PT job!! Phew!

Update 27th October 2020

Nottinghamshire including Broxtowe (where the studio is) will be in Tier 3 as of Thursday 29th October for 28 days...This changed to the WHOLE of Nottinghamshire and to Friday 29th October ..Marchpane Studio can still be open for private lessons and small workshops as long as it is Covid compliant in line with government guidelines.

  • Small workshop/class sizes. Up to 4 people in each workshop or class for households & bubbles only. For individuals it would be 3 people in order to keep the required distance between everyone.

  • One-to-one private lessons and private lessons attended with household or bubble members can still go ahead as long as all parties are aware of the precautions required and are happy to comply with the measures in place.

  • Click here for the information about private lessons as these can be one-offs and can last anything from 1 hour to an all day! Or get in touch here to enquire.

We are due for review on Friday 27th November. The Rag Wreath workshops are on 28th and 29th November so fingers crossed they can go ahead.

I've already had one person ask if they can come and make the rag wreath with their Mum on a day in the week. I am very happy to accommodate requests like this!

Covid-19 has meant it is a very uncertain time to start a business but since I had no job lined up after my latest maternity cover contract ended I decided it was time to take the leap! I've been planning Marchpane for a few years and it seems that now is the time to start pandemic or not! I am very aware that if the situation did get worse it could be very bad news for a creative-start-up! But, ever the optimist, I am keeping my fingers crossed that things will stay under control and small workshops will continue to be allowed!

We all need to have nice things planned for our own mental health especially going into the winter season. I hope that Marchpane Studio will offer a welcome creative venue and that you will, as potential attendees, feel safe and secure visiting me at the studio as much as you would be at home or at a trusted friend or family member's house. Hopefully everything can still thrive despite this strange time we are all experiencing.

What am I doing to make us all feel as safe as possible?

  • Small class sizes. No more than 5 attendees per session. (The normal number would only ever be 6 and I may yet reduce this number to 4 depending on the next couple of weeks writing this on 23/09/20)

  • I've bought a couple more tables meaning we can be spaced out rather than around one big table which was my original plan.

  • Marchpane Studio occupies an extension that runs the length of the house. The conversion has only just been completed in October 2020. It is the old garage which opens into the utility room where there is kettle/refreshment area and a sink and a separate toilet. The facilities are solely for the use of myself and any course/class or workshop attendees. These will all be cleaned before and after any sessions.

  • I will leave by my front door and enter through the studio door rather than the internal door which will remain locked and vice versa in order to keep the two areas separate.

  • Windows will be opened a little to allow for cross ventilation of the studio space.

  • I won't be running workshops or courses every day! On average there are 3 sessions of workshops/courses per week. Occasionally 4, occasionally 2, sometimes 1 sometimes none! Marchpane Studio is not open to the public as a shop or gallery space. The only people that come to the studio premises are those that have booked onto a course/workshop/class.

  • Hand sanitisers and good old soap and warm water are available for regular use.

  • I will wear a face visor to run the sessions at all times.

  • There will be disposable masks and face visors available for anyone wishing to wear them or attendees are welcome to bring their own. I am not going to make it compulsory for you to do so as there are valid reasons not to wear them and you will not be asked to provide a reason either. Please do whatever you feel most comfortable with. Please note the visors at the studio are not the disposable sort. Be assured they will have had a thorough bath and disinfection in between uses.

  • I will encourage attendees to bring their own apron at the moment but if you didn't I will have aprons and will wash  them after every use.

  • I would ask if you have any sort of Covid-19 symptoms not to attend. Disappointing as that would be. You would be able to transfer to another date or be refunded. You will not lose any money I would rather everyone stay safe. If you were attending with friend(s)/family and having a creative sessions as a group get-together just speak to me as I know the sort of courses I run will often be attended by groups of friends/family as well as by individuals. The original session can run for the other attendees not in your friend(s)/family group. I would then put the session on again especially for your friend(s)/family when you're well again/stopped self-isolating. If you were on one of the 6 week courses then I would make it so you could come along when you were well/ stopped self-isolating in order to make-up lost time on another day to suit. I will always find a solution so that you get to have your creative time!

  • Likewise if I have any symptoms/tested positive for Covid-19 I would postpone the workshop/course/lesson and offer refunds/rearrange with all attendees.

  • If within two weeks following a class you had to have a Covid-19 test and tested positive or experienced symptoms I would ask you to communicate this to me so that I could inform the other attendees at your session. In much the same way as restaurants/cafes are doing.

  • You will have your own equipment and not be required to share. I will have mine too and will not use yours.

  • If there were any tools that have to be shared eg. a roller for printmaking or the handle of the press then there will be latex free gloves provided and a wipe down policy before and after use of the tool. Wipes will be provided.

  • I will be a total cleaning goddess and that studio will be cleaned so thoroughly before and after any workshops or courses. I will take that responsibility very seriously indeed. I want you to feel as safe as you would in your own home.
